Hi, I'm trying to find out information about my grandfather Harold Taylor.
What I do know: He was born 1903 in Stockport. His parents were John Taylor (an engraver) and Beatrice Rock. I have exhausted all the normal sources, but after 1930 I'm unable to trace him any further.
There is a theory that he might have moved to the Dukinfield area. If think you have you might have Harold in your family tree please make contact and help solve the puzzle.

Welcome to our forum FuzzyFink,
I wonder if any of these Harold Taylors could be your grandfather. I got their details from the post 1884 Death registers. This is just a shot in the dark, but might be a shortcut to finding his whereabouts:
Harold Taylor born 13 July 1904 died in Tameside in March 1984, Harold Taylor born 6 March 1903 died at Stockport September 1993, Harold Edward Taylor born 11 June 1902 died at Stockport in May 1984, Harold Hargreaves Taylor born 7 July 1904 died May 1994 at Tameside.
Can you tell us where you have managed to find him up until 1930 and also who he married.
best wishes, GAY

Hi Gay Harold's birth certificate states he was born in August 1903 and doesn't give a middle name. So that possibly rules out the other Harolds. In 1930 he married Alice Toft and they lived in Timperley/Altrincham. However, the marriage didn't work out and Harold left. And that's about all I know.... if only he had a more unusual surname than 'Taylor'. This is proving very difficult. Thanks for the super quick response

Hello Fuzzyfink,
If you have an address for Harold Taylor in Timperley/Altrincham it may well be worth while checking the Electoral Registers at Trafford Local Studies. If memory serves me correctly I think that they have the registers for the 1930 (complete) in book form. If he was a registered voter, this should give a good indication when he left the address.

Thanks Gerard. Checked the electoral roll, it confirms he only stayed a couple of years. Complete mystery where he went next....

A further clue - There's a possibility that Harold Taylor ran a pub in Dukinfield. Licencing records indicate that Harold Taylor was the Licensee of the Victoria Pub in 1951.
