::)Here is me wondering again....In 1803 an Ann DANIELS married Alexander LIVINGSTONE. Record St. Mary's Parish, Stockport. In 1851 she is living with her daughter, Harriet FLETCHER. Harriet was born ca. 1800 according to that census and her death information. Harriet DANIELS married in 1822 to Thomas FLETCHER in Cheadle. Since she was born prior to Ann's marriage to Alexander LIVINGSTONE would there not be a birth record for a Harriet DANIEL(S) to Ann ? and ? DANIELS somewhere in Cheshire around 1800? This might help me to find Ann's maiden name and the name of Harriet's father. And possibly more children to that marriage ....and then MORE QUESTIONS! Woody thank you for the insight on the signature and the X. I guess for Alexander LIVINGSTONE I am kind of stuck for now. By the way I forgot to mention that Lydia LIVINGSTONE was born in 1816. She married Thomas STEAD in Manchester in 1839. Came to the U.S. in 1864. But there was a Henry DANIEL who was a witness to Ann marrying Alexander LIVINGSTONE in 1803. So I guess she could have named her daughter after Henry's wife. Margaret

Hello Margaret,
I think that to make further progress that you are going to have to access the microfilms for Cheadle, Prestbury and Stockport.
I feel that since these records are not on the IGI that you might find a veritable treasure trove of information contained within them.
Some of these are available to purchase on microfiche from the Family History Society of Cheshire, but you can always hire them to view at your local LDS Family History Centre:
Reno Nevada 4751 Neil Rd Reno, Washoe, Nevada, United States Phone: 775-826-1130 Hours: T-Th 10am-9pm Closed: Week of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year
I would start by ordering baptisms for Cheadle.
I can always look up marriages between 1754 - 1837 on my marriage CD, and baptisms at Stockport St Mary's. I have the fiche for these, but they are currently out on loan for a few weeks.
For any specific questions and queries about Geography and Local History we are still waiting here to help:)
The very best of luck!!
GAY

Hi Gay. I do know of the Family History Centre here in Reno. I am physically disabled and don't get around much. An aneurysm of my aorta in January set me back a little financially. But I would be appreciative of direction to a Family History Centre there in your area where I might be able to purchase books or cd's with records that might be useful that I can search here at home. Thank you and Woody for all the help you have given me so far. Margaret

Hello again Margaret, I'm really sorry for being so insensitive in suggesting your local LDS Centre, it's just that I don't drive and can't travel around much, so learn't to use the facilities at my own LDS Centre here in Ashton-under-Lyne, when I was researching at a distance. I've had a quick look at the microfiche our society have indexed and sadly there are no baptisms before 1813 at Cheadle St Mary's and none at all for Prestbury. They do, though, have the Graveyard Inscriptions for both churches. You can't order on-line by credit card from our society website, but you can shop on-line through an organisation called GENFAIR. Eventually the records for Prestbury and Cheadle and all of Cheshire will appear on-line via the Family Search pilot website because the Mormons are working hard in Chester Record Office digitising the parish registers which are not on the IGI. Sorry but I do not have a timescale for completion. All of us who have been researching our family trees for a number of years acquire various resources and are always willing to share the information we have. So keep asking questions

Hello,
I do not mean to butt in on this topic but the PRs for the churches that you mention are all on film at Manchester Central Library. At one time I was in a position to do lookups for people, but I just can't spare the time as (fortunately) I am too busy. I do know of someone who operates on another forum who may be able to help you. I can let you have the briefest of details via pm.
I am not sure how large these messages can be so i may have to repost some of the PR details.

Ah yes, it worked. Just as an afterthought. The Mormons have their Mr Twigg currently beavering away at digitizing Manchester Archives and Local Studies material in a little room on the third or fourth floor of Manchester Central Library. It is hoped (eventually) to have all this material online. Mr Twigg is currently working on digitizing microfilm material before going on to unfilmed material. I am not sure sure when this will be available to the public, but I will ask the powers that be at MCL.

Hello Gerard,
Yes! please if you could pm me with the details. If it is the people I am thinking about they will only do specific look ups in parish registers for individual items found on the IGI. They don't trawl though unindexed microfilms, just looking for instances of various surnames.
Very many years ago I used to do this, but it is a process that could take several weeks. This was virtually before anything was available on-line. It is really amazing what is now available to search without even leaving home and more is added all the time, sometimes at a rate that it's difficult to keep up with. The Mormons are hoping to get all their two and a half million rolls of films which are stored in the granite vaults at Salt Lake City indexed and on-line over the next ten years. Can't wait!! ;D

Dear Gay and Gerard...thank you and no offense taken at the information for the familyhistory center here in Reno. I would LOVE to own my own microfilm machine and be able to rent the films. I am keeping my eyes open for a really cheap one to pop up ;D I have printed out all of the microfilm numbers that Gerard supplied and hopefully they will come in handy. I will also be checking out GENFAIR. I do have access to Ancestry.com U.S. records. I have been an online genealogy brick-wall volunteer for people here in the U.S. for a number of years now. I really enjoy helping others whenever possible. So there are other reasons for me to find some records to purchase. Maybe I can return the favors I have received here. You are both a great help. Thank you, Margaret
