I have opened up another branch of my husband's family tree. Joshua Saxon married Jane Hassall b1827 d 1909. Her father John Hassall b 1804 d 1883 married a Clarina/Clerina/Clara Norton b ab 1805 d 1875. I think they married in Mottram in 1824 although all seem to have come from Stalybridge. On the 1841 Census they lived on Wakefield Rd. They seem to have had 12 children!
Does anyone have any links into this tree especially further back?
Later on, in 1861 John Hassall is the Lodge Keeper (Cotton Mill) at 30 Wakefield Rd. Does anyone know if old employment records for the mills exist still?
Thanks for your help Jillian

Hi there
I stumbled across your post from 2009 and it has opened a few more doors for me, they seem to be revolving doors from what I can gather! I recently moved back to Stalybridge after years away studying at University and working and I've become interested, some might say addicted!, to researching my family history.
My Maternal line are from the far NE of Scotland while my Paternal line is Stalybridge/Mottram/Tintwistle/Ashton/Wigan based. Your post was interesting because the Jane Hassall that Joshua Saxon married was my paternal G,mothers Great-Aunt on her Father's side. My G,mother is Joyce Heyworth (nee Hassall) b.1925. Her father was Ralph Hassall b1880 in Stalybridge. Ralph's father was John Norton Hassall b 1846 in Hartshead ; d 1918 in Stalybridge. John Norton was Jane Hassall's brother!
I suppose this means we are distantly related to your husband by marriage. I have all the information relating to the Hassall's from John Norton onwards if you would like me to email you? My email add. is drjasontennant@hotmail.com Please feel free to contact me anytime.
Regards
Jason
