I've been researching my grandfather's side of the family who originate from Ashton/Stalybridge/Dunkinfield. I'm having trouble finding a death record for JAMES HILL born 1858 Tideswell, Derby, married SUSAN COOK 1879. I believe he died (aged 44) in 1902 as he is listed on his eldest son's military enlistment as living in April 1902 but deceased on his other son's marriage record by April 1903. His last know address was Bridge Street in Stalybridge as he was the pub landlord at the Morning Star. I have checked the Cheshire, Lancashire and UK BMDs, GRO indexes and have tried to get the GRO office to help with no avail. I would appreciate any recommendations on where I go from here or any info you might have about James or the pub. Thanks Sarah

Hi Sarah, The problem here is that as James didn't die where you would have liked him to die it does make it a bit trickier. However the only one I can find that fits the bill is 1902 aged 44 in Middleton. Lancashire BMD M/32/42. The only way to find out is to fork out some money I'm afraid and hope it's the correct one.
