Hi Gaye & friends, I have in my possession a British & foreign Bible ( sold under cost price @ 10 pence)This came into my hands through my brother-in-law long deceased (Herbert Bentley from Castle Hall Stalybridge) Inside it is dedicated to Amy Morris "for punctual attendance at the Ryan St., General Ragged School, Hanley", & dated November 1863.Also on the inside flyleaf is the name Moss Hadfield, Victoria St. Tunstall. There are also 4 wax seals where a document has been removed. At the rear of the Bible there is also a register of the family of Robert Hadfield listing 7 names from 1775 to 1789. There is then a register of Buckley Bottomly family 1775 to 1771. Then follows a register of Stanway family (no dates) Next a register o0f the Morrey Family (7 Listed) from 1825 to 1856. I cant recall if my brother in laws mother was a Morrey, but the name seems familiar. Has anyone any information on any of these families or indeed the Ragged Schools that existed then? Sorry not ben in touch lately. Had a bad fall downstairs, that put me oput of action for months. Regards Hilda.
