My Great Grandfather, Edward Tindall, lived at 2 Wood Street, Ashton, in the first half of the 20th Century.
He was a blacksmith and ran his own business somewhere in Ashton area.Does anyone have any idea of where his forge was or how I can find out as nobody in the family knows.

Do you have a copy of the family on the 1911 census? I can send direct if you don't. He was living at 2 Wood Street, but at that stage he said he was a blacksmith for an engineering firm and was a worker not an employer.
I also checked in 1901 and he was then living at Corkland Street, still a blacksmith and working at an Iron Foundry and old map might help.
I could also check for any relevant trade directories to see if he is listed as self employed after 1911.
Let me know if you need these census forms

Thanks, Gay.
My Mother can remember her grandparents living at 2 Wood Street. I went there early this year and the house is still there but is now a shop.
1911 census copy would be good, I only have up to 1901.
