Hi, I wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of the names of Stalybridge Mill Owners.
I have found an ancestor joshua Platt b1781 who is supposed to have been co-owner of a mill with the Robert Platt of Stalybridge fame - he and his wife donated a bridge among other things to the town and he was owner of a number of mills - so I'm told but have to verify this.
Thanks Jill

Joshua and George PLATT owned Soot Poke and Bridge Street Mills. Joshua on his own owned Gartside's and Hollins Mill Robert Platt owned Bridge Street Mill, Quarry Street Mill and Albion Mill. There is an excellent book written by Ian Haynes all about the Mills of Stalybridge which is available to purchase from Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre, which has detailed histories of each of the mills. www.tameside.gov.uk/leisure/new/lh23.htm
