Hi, I'm looking into the Platt family of Stalybridge, part of my husband's f tree. I have a Hannah Platt 1800-1838, who married Elisha Saxon and had 3 children, Daniel, Joseph and Joshua.
Her father was a Joshua Platt 1781 - 1843. His wife was Mary.
I don't know anything else about him, his parents etc or even if her had any other children.
Everytime I walk across the Platt bridge near Tesco I think of him and if they're connected in any way.
Any help will be gratefully received, thanks jill ;D

Hi
Just had a quick look. The only Hannah Platt I can find at first look is "Hannah Platt - Christened at St George Stalybridge in 1798 - parents recorded as Joseph & Mary Platt
I'm wondering if ths is the Hannah Platt who married Elisha Saxon at Manchester cathedral on 12 April 1819.
Again, at first glance, I have found the follwing children on the IGI (as extracted records) christened at St Michael, AUL: Joseph Christened 7 February 1820 Mary Christened 11 May 1823 Joshua Christened 1 May 1825 Sarah Christened 1 April 1827 Daniel Christened 8 March 1829 All the above have Elisha & Hannah Saxon as parents
Hope this helps............... sorry I've not had time to investigate further at the moment
Be well
Sandra

Hi SAndra,
Thankyou very much for that info. Yes, she is the one who married Elisha and I had Joseph, Joshua and Daniel but not Mary and Sarah, so thanks for that! Old Elisha went on to marry twice more after hannah - . I'm pretty sure this is wrong as his other marraiges are to Sarah Skervin Nov 1832 and Elizabeth Jackson (Thackeray) 1839 (I have the cert for this). However, there is a death entry for a Hannah Saxon, Q2 1838 but this is likely to be his daughter Hannah from his 2nd marriage. How would I find out more about Jospeh & MaryPlatt backwards? Jill

Hi again
Need to give the Joseph/Mary situation some more thought. You really are going to need to consult parish registers
The Hannah Saxon who died in 1838 was 23 when she died, this would mean she was born about 1915 - before he was married

Hi again - I did, of course, mean Joshua & Mary in the above post.
The only wedding I have found is:
Joshua Platt = Mary Womesley - 17 October 1796 at St Michael, Mottram in Longdendale, Cheshire
Possible children of Joshua & Mary (all christened at St George, Stalybridge the same as Hannah):
Sarah 2 July 1797 Hannah 25 November 1798 Betty 8 June 1800 Mary 8 August 1802 Mary 26 February 1804 Lewis 28 February 1808 George 22 April 1810 Jane 9 February 1812 Robert 3 April 1814
There is an extracted christening record on the IGI for a Joshua Platt christened at St Michael, Mottram on 9 August 1774 and the parents there are listed as Robert & Hannah Platt. This is significantly earlier than the date you have of 1781. However I do think this is worth another look as Hannah is the wife's name and Robert the husband - both names of the children christened at St George, Stalybridge
If you live in the area these need to be checked against the parish records held at the archives in Ashton

Thanks for all of this information Sandra, I'm going to sit down tomorrow and have a good look at it and then, as you suggest, try to get down to the studies centre in Ashton.

Hi, Thanks to your lead, Sandra, I've managed to find a few more generations back of Platts. I don't think the death for Hannah Saxon 1838 could be mine which means so far, I havent traced her demise. However, I agree her parents are probably Joshua Platt b1774and Mary Womesley. They married in St Michael's Mottram Oct 1796 His parents are then Robert Platt b1750 and Hannah His parents are Joshua Platt who married Mary Harison on 2 Jul 1746 (IGI). Best wishes Jill
