I HAVE JUST JOINED THIS BOARD AFTER HAVING RESEARCHED FOR VERY MANY YEARS, BUT HAVE ONLY JUST FOUND THE MARRIAGE OF MY G.G.GRANDFATHER. His name was Alexander Tallent. I have discovered that he married Ann Fletcher at St.Mary,Stockport on 21st April 1823. I have two questions. First why should someone probably living in Ashton get married in Stockport? Second it is possible that Ann was born in Ashton on the 10th Feb 1804. Can anyone give me more information on the Fletcher family? Thank you

Hi
St Marys Stockport held lots of marriages of Tameside people. They had special days when the cost of the marriages was cheaper than at the local church. I have quite a few of mine that married in Stockport Manchester cathedral had special days too.
