I'm searching for Ada Hampson, born 1894 in Ashton, the daughter of James Hampson, a fireman. I have no further information, and I can't find Ada on the 1901 census. Does anyone know anything about either of them? Any help greatly appreciated.

I seem to have drawn a blank too - also in 1911 and looking for James in 1891. The only thing I can suggest is buying a copy of Ada's birth certificate to find her mother's name and then looking for her and then a possible marriage for James. I found about four James Hampson marriages in Tameside around the right period.
Ada Hampson registered Ashton Town 1894 AST/132/2

Like Gay, I've found nothing at all for Ada Hampson in 1901 and as she says, there are several people called James Hampson of the right age, although none I looked were firemen at the time.
Just following up Gay's information, there's only one James Hampson who lived only in Ashton-under-Lyne during the entire period 1871 - 1901 so, even though it's a bit of a wildcard, I checked him out.
If this is your man, I think he married somebody called Sarah Dewhurst (b 1872, A-U-L) in 1891 and was born 1871 in Stockport. Parents were William (b 1831, Manchester) and Charlotte Hampson (b 1832, Dukinfield) and there are several siblings. You'll find them all on the free Findmypast 1881 census for A-U-L.
It's possible that Sarah Hampson (Dewhurst) died at Mossley in 1907, and there are then couple of re-marriage possibilities for husband James, who might have died in 1948.
I did a quick check on each of James' siblings in 1901 just to see whether Ada was living with any of them, but she wasn't. I didn't check the same possibilty on the Dewhurst line because I might be completely wrong about the marriage.
If Ada remained in the Tameside area there's a possible marriage, again just a guess, to John Peake in 1913. There are death records for each which are the right age - John in 1967 age 67 (AHO/13B/84) and Ada in 1974 age 80 (AHO/A5C/81), both at Ashton Hospital. FreeBMD will give you several birth records that are probably their children. although the various BMD transcriptions conflict for some of them so they need a bit of exploration.
I think Gay's right and that investing in the birth certificate is the only way to be certain with this one.
