There are at least two Newtons in this area.
The first is an abbreviation for Newton-le-Willows which is in the Warrington/ St Helens area of Lancashire.
The one you're looking for is more likely to be the local district in Hyde, Cheshire which lies between Hyde and Mottram-in-Longdendale. In the various records it's also sometimes referenced as 'Newton & Godley' or 'Newton-by-Hyde'.
