From todays MEN "AN INSIGHT into Manchester in the 19th century is only a mouse click away thanks to a new online newspaper search system. The British Library service gives users access to thousands of headlines from newspapers including the Manchester Times. Anyone logging on to the website will find economic collapses, plunging interest rates and foreign wars are nothing new as they dominate many of the pages. The Manchester Times was created in 1828 by Archibald Prentice, the son of a Scottish farmer who settled in the city. It moved into premises in Ducie Place before merging with the Manchester Examiner. The service, which can be accessed at newspapers.bl.uk/blcs, includes more than two million newspaper pages from 49 national and regional titles dating from 1800." My understanding is that you have to pay for downloads but searching is free. Other newspapers are on this site Sandra

Hello Brian, I have just tried this and it is as I thought. The link in the previous message included a comma at the end. Can you try again without it, please! newspapers.bl.uk/blcs

My thanks also, Gay. Must see if my local library has the free access!
