Hi... I have been creating my family tree or about 9 years and have just come across this site, which refers to some of my ancestors.... Namely Squire Hulley who married Hannah Dalton. In 1901 Squire was in Dartmoor prison as an inmat, but I have been unable to find out why.
Hannah, his wife, died in 1899 in Royton. Squire died in 1911 in the workhouse in Oldham.
Squire and Hannah are my great grandparents.
While my parents were alive, I never learnt anything about the Hulley side of the family (Hulley is my maiden name). I discovered that for Squire (1859 - 1911) , most of his aunts and uncles emigrated to US, New Jersey, so there weren't many left in UK. Squire and Hannah produced James(1880 - 1945), my grandfather. He married Jane Wood (1883 - 1970).
I would be grateful if anyone has any info about the lives of this family.... and look forward to hearing from you.

Hi A couple of years ago I found information on behalf of another member, Chris77, but I don't know how much further she explored the references I gave her (some via personal message and e-mail). I'm afraid we never got to the bottom of Squire Hulley's conviction either so can't help you there. It seems the majority of Dartmooor prison records were burned in a fire there and destroyed Chris’ request for information was initially about families called Healey & Harlow and there was some connection with the Burton on Trent and Macclesfield areas. It might be worth contacting her by personal message to see what happened next. Squire Hulley came into the equation late and there were two of them - the one you mention who's history was in Mossley and ended up in Dartmoor, and another in Middleton who sailed for the USA aboard the SS Haverford on 24 May 1911. He was married to Caroline Priscilla Radcliffe who also went to the USA. The address given for contact in 1911 was 10 Hunter Street, Middleton but at census time, this family was at 91 Hunter Street, Middleton. Your Squire Hulley was living with his family at 90 Higginshaw Road, Oldham in 1891 and the next record was as a widower in Dartmoor. Have you looked at Ray Hulley’s website – he’s the guy who’s constructing a worldwide Hulley tree ? It used to be at www.hulley.info/

Hello I have got HULLEY & WOOD in my tree but the dates differ. I have got JAMES HAGUE marrying ELIZABETH WOOD on 10 December 1865 at St St Michael's Church, Ashton under Lyne. James Hague's father was JOHN HAGUE. Elizabeth Wood's mother was HANNAH WOOD-no father was stated on Marriage Record. They have a son JAMES HULLEY HAGUE on 20 September 1866 but he died in the June Qtr of 1871. They lived at 80 Oldham Road, Ashton under Lyne. ELIZABETH WOOD was born about 1840 and died in 1903. I don't know where they got HULLEY from for their son JAMES's middle name. Looks like Hannah wasn't married when she had Elizabeth?? Is there any connection to your HULLEY/WOOD's? Hello Further to my reply to your message I have just found that my ELIZABETH WOOD's mother HANNAH (b 1815) must have married GEORGE HULLEY (b 1815) after Elizabeth was born which was between 1836-1840) GEORGE & HANNAH HULLEY & ELIABETH WOOD are living at 84 Oldham Road, Ashton under Lyne in 1861. In 1871 GEORGE & HANNAH HULLEY but no Elizabeth Wood (she had married James Hague in 1865) were living at 4 Sackville Street, Ashton under Lyne. GEORGE & HANNAH had quite a few children. Is there any connec tion with your HULLEY/WOOD's now? Pat --------------------------------------------------------- Hi...
