Hello everybody, I'm Allan Cassley from Dalton-in-Furness researching the Allen family from Ulverston. My aunt, Annie Allen b1879 in Ulverston, m Thomas Wood, b1879 in Ashton, in Ashton in 1903. They had two sons, Stanley b1906 & Thomas Allan b1909. They were living in 27 Duke Street, Ashton, in the 1911 census. Stanley m Alice Bostock in Ashton in 1932. They had two sons, Peter b1933 & Gordon b1935. Peter m Edith Ballard in 1958 & they had three daughters. These "facts" are from making reasonable assumptions on Ancestry, etc. but I would really like some confirmation [or otherwise] of the same. I am unable to travel to Ashton myself so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Allan,
As you probably know, tracing 20th century records is far more difficult to research since we don' have census records to back up our assumptions.
My best advice is either to go step by step and order birth and marriage certificates, to confirm the details as you go. Also try using Cheshire BMD: cheshirebmd.org.uk for local events in Tameside. Armed with the local reference numbers you could then approach Tameside Register Office to provide you with the correct certificate.
e.g. according to Cheshire BMD Stanley John WOOD married Alice BOSTOCK at Dukinfield Bethseda Methodist Church, Wellington Road reference AP47/3/17. The staff at the register office are very helpful and would only supply you with a certificate if you stipulated that his father's name was Thomas. Once you have traced the family lines forward to within living memory, you could then try writing a letter to our Local freebie newspaper:
The Advertiser Group of Newpapers 35-37 Booth street Ashton-under-Lyne Lancashire OL6 7LB Tel: 44 (0)161 339 7611
