Hi everyone
I'm researching two interconnected families who intermarried and then came to Hyde in the 1820s: the Birches from Ropesmoor, near Fawfieldhead (Staffs) and the Roscoes from Taddington (Derbys). I've found the gravestone of my GGGGrandfather and GGGGrandmother (Joshua Birch and Elizabeth Birch, nee Roscoe) in the churchyard at Hyde Independent Chapel. I'm now trying to find his brother Enoch Birch (died Hyde Lane, Hyde in 1872), his second wife Grace Birch, nee Johnson (died in Hyde circa 1836), his third wife Ann Birch, nee Roscoe (died 1849), and his fourth wife Sarah Birch, nee Chatterton (died sometime after 1872).
I was wondering if there are burial records for Hyde Independent Chapel, or even better, a monumental inscriptions list/book? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Ashley

Hello Ashley,
Here is a page from my website all about what records exist for people searching burial information in Tameside:
tamesidefamilyhistory.co.uk/burials.htm
It is by no means a comprehensive list of all the churches which had graveyards, but it is a start. Can you tell me which church you mean't by Hyde Independant Chapel?
I have bought copies of any churches who have had their burials transcribed, but at first glance can't spot your family.
I'm am busy packing for a short break, but I'll try and get back to you later.

Just to add to my previous email, here is a page from GENUKI which lists where the records are held for churches from Hyde. I think you will see from this that some are still at the church and quite a few are held by Cheshire Record Office and some are at Manchester Central Library: www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/hyde.html

Thanks Gay. The church I visited was Hyde Chapel at Knott Lane, Gee Cross. I was given a tip by someone researching the same family who had found the grave of Joshua Roscoe, which is quite prominent and easy to read, yet apparently he's not in the burial record. I'll take a look at the information you gave and see if I can get any further. Once again, thanks for your help, Ashley
