Hi every one. I often log into Tamesde library web site to find info on family. My Mayall ancestors are a very colorful lot. The most impressive being John Mayall who employed 40% of Mossley workforce at one point.
John Buckley.B 1825 Stonebreak Saddleworth, married to Mary Ann Mayall b1824 of Earnshaw Head has got me stumped. They married at St Chad in 1849. His father Thomas was a dyer by trade. I suspect he was living near Mary Ann in Woodbrook with a Shaw family who's children changed names on all the census forms IE; Buckley Shaw and finally Vickers. Any one out there who loves to solve mysteries? Ps This Sherlock Holm lives in Australia.

Thanks for the feed back Colin. I had found info on Ancester.com. However I could not find the family on the 1851 census. I traced them on every other. Astonishing to find that my first marital home was in the next street in Chadderton and that my brother and aunt now live a short walk from Earnshaw head and Stonebreak in Saddleworth. The Mayalls I picked up on dsthorn tree, will contact you to swop yarns on them by email

HI Missive
Whilst looking through the booklet 'Jubilee Souvenir Mossley 1855-1935' on behalf of Hollyberry, I found scraps of information and a couple of photographs of Mayalls and Buckleys as ex-Mayors of Mossley:
Photos: John Mayall 1886-1888; Robert Shaw Buckley 1888-1898; Joseph Fearns Lawton 1890-1892
Information: In 1892, there were portraits of John Mayall and Joseph Lawton in the Mayor's Parlour at Mossley Town Hall (formerly the drawing room of the house George Mayall built for his family in the 1860s)
There's also a mention of Edmund Lees Mayall, second son of George Mayall.
Might be of use to you ?
Woody
