Can anyone tell me where I might find further info on John Travis of Taunton who was injured at Peterloo. I remember seeing a page somewhere online giving details of his age, injuries and compensation. I think it was a photocopy of an original handwritten page. But I haven't been able to find this since.

I just noticed your message from last year, but in case you haven't found the info yet, it's on www.spinningtheweb.org.uk. Search for Peterloo compensation, and John Travis is on page 53. I know because I am also researching my Travis ancestors in AuL. However, this John wasn't the right age to be mine - unless they made a mistake! My 5x great-grandfather John Travis was born in 1759, he married Mally Stansfield and they had a son John, born 1789, plus 7 other children. Do you think we might be related? Arkay

Thanks for this. Your link does lead to the Peterloo Relief Fund book including John Travis. I can trace my Travis ancestors back to James Travis born A-U-L about 1783 and living in Taunton Platting in 1841 and 1951. I was exploring any possible connections between the Travis families of Taunton. I haven't found anything definite but Taunton was essentially a small village at the time and the inhabitants of such places were often related. I'll keep looking but haven't many more avenues to explore. I don't know of any link with your Travis family
