come up against a wall in my searching. Elias Dean born 1813'ish in Wigan married a Sarah Finn in 1834 she died abt 1853
he then married Elizabeth Scholes in 1856 in Ashton.
can't pin point a death, but more importantly can't trace HIS parents
i know his fathers name was William Dean, that's it
can anybody help here?

I'm afraid I can't provide any information at all about William Dean - couldn't find anything for him apart from his name on Elias' marriage certificate.
As to personal information about Elias, the 1853 possible death date you mention was a 4-years old child so that can't be Sarah Finn. However, there's a Manchester burial record for 11th March 1855 which is more likely. That date would clear the way for his second marriage the following year - which of course took place at Manchester Cathedral, not Ashton. There's a prison record for August 1860 for a 47-year old Elias Dean, handed a 3-months sentence without the option of a fine for using threatening language, together with a birthlace (Wigan), a physical description and a general address (Oldham Road). The death 1882 record for Oldham Below Town would fit Elias.
I also think Elias and second wife Elizabeth must have parted company by the 1860s and certainly, by the 1881 census she's reverted to her previous married name of 'Scholes'.
She was, however, born Elizabeth Livesey and that makes her likely first husband Thomas Scholes whose death in 1854 was registered at the Ardwick BMD sub-division of Manchester. If I'm right, there were four 'Scholes' children, but she also seems to have had two more with Elias Dean - James (1857) and Elizabeth Ann (1858). Elizabeth Ann married John Green and they had at least one child together. Consistently, the Dean-Scholes families and their successors have lived in the Openshaw/ Droylsden/ Clayton areas which was covered by 'Ardwick' then, and most of the records are to be found in the Manchester archives
Elias and Sarah's children all survived childhood, married and with the exception of Elias Jnr (b 1851) remained in the Openshaw/ Droylsden/ Bradford area . Elias Jnr migrated with his family to Quebec, Canada on 28 August 1881. I'm not sure about his eventual fate but his children seem to have settled in Massachusetts, USA and his wife, Jane Ann (Sutliffe) remarried there.
I've kept all the relevant documents. If you want any of them, I suggest you send me a private message so that we can arrange a means of transfer.

Tony. Thanks for your reply and I hope you’re recovering. Worry not about the delay. This stuff’s been lying around for well over 100 years so a few more weeks ain’t going to make much difference. I’ll e-mail the information to you shortly.
