Hi, researching my paternal line (Taylor) who seem to have been prevalent around the mid to late 1700's in Haughton Green and Denton with Joseph (1777) son of Joseph(date? ), moving to Hyde in the mid 1800's with son Matthew and his wife Harriett (nee Harrandale), drifting to Newton, and then to Stalybridge. Very keen to solve the conundrum of Matthew and Harriett's later children and when and where Matthew died. There is evidence of him being in Bury as a railway labourer (he went into the railways after the demise of the hatting industry). Have hit a brick wall and loathe to move forward until resolved - any help would be appreciated!

I have many connections to Ashton-Under-Lyne, particularly the Waterloo and Limehurst areas. For example, my paternal great grandfather John COPELAND came to Ashton from Cumbria when a young man. He is shown on the 1871 census living in Ney Street Waterloo, boarding with the Matley family. My maternal great grandfather Samson HARDING was born in Broxton Cheshire but came to live in Dukinfield with his widowed father. Samson later became the licensee of "The Old Ball Inn" Smallshaw. If anyone is researching either of these families please get in touch.
Adding a few more names: KERSHAW from Littlemoss GOODWIN from Alt and Fairbottom BELFIELD originally from Longnor Staffs but later settled in Ashton.

Hello, and good evening. I am here because I noticed today, when I checked my website statistics program, that I had had a visit from Gay. Thought I'd take a look at the URL and found the site. Very nice it is too. I live in Luton, but am originally from Manchester (born in Ardwick, Edgerton Place). Early days, yet, but I am sure this site has every chance of growing. I've put a link on my webpage. Hopefully, this will bring more visits. Good luck! Eric.

Having semi-retired, I'm finding that helping friends complete family history research is a good way of keeping the brain cells mobilised. At the moment, I'm particularly interested in information about Joseph Shepley (b 1906 in Ashton) who, according to his marriage certificate (1949: Ashton) was a metal broker. His father, Abraham was also a metal broker and I'm trying to make the link between these two individuals' histories. It's possible that Joseph lived in the Crewe area after marriage. Can anyone shed any light please ?

Hi I have family connections with Stalybridge with my husbands side going back to the mid 1500's with BESWICK'S, NIELD'S and HOLLINGWORTHS On my side I have connections with Stalybridge, New Mills, Hollingworth and Mellor areas. I have LEE, TONGUE AND HAGUE in Stalybridge in 1800's, THORP(E) in New Mills in late 1700's and BAILEY in Hollingworth, and my mum, a HAGUE came from Ashton. I look forward to hearing from people with similar family interests. Tracy

Hi
I'm researching the surnames Welsby and Woodhead from Hyde, Garlick from Tintwistle. I have more or less finished with the bare bones of the lines and now am padding them out.

Yes, I've got here, at last. No direct family members in Tameside really, but am very interested in the area - I'm mostly Cheshire around the Crewe area and Staffordshire around Kidsgrove area (for my tree). My husband's family are more or less all from the Ancoats area

Hello,
I just thought that I would have a poke around and see what may interest me! I have only one family connection that I know of in the area, but I am generally interested in most economic and social aspects of family history and history in general. Amongst many areas, I have a particular interest in Manchester and Salford prisons, but perhaps more about that another time.
