I am trying to research into Sgt John Kenny who was killed in action in the RAF during the Normandy Landings. He was born in Hyde, son of Patrick and Esther, his father died soon after and his mother remarried to James Hartley.
He went to St Paul's School. He is on our College War Memorial at St Bede's, Manchester and we are trying to put together details of his life for a book next year.
Does anybody know anything about him?

It might be worth putting a request into the local Tameside Reporter in case any family members are still in the area. I have been able to retrieve some information, which you may already have. Joseph Aubrey Kenny was born 1912 Hyde. He had an older brother Luke born in 1909. Patrick Kenny married Esther Ellen Hadfield in Ashton under Lyne in 1908 On the 1911 census Hester, which is how she has written her name on the form, is living at 12 Mount St Hyde with son Luke but there is no sign of Patrick. There is a death for Patrick Kenny in 1948 aged 70 in Mossley. There is a marriage for Luke Kenny to Laura Bowers in Hyde 1941. Sorry can't be of more help but records for someone of this age aren't readily available. It would cost money to get his RAF records.
