Hi Newby here.
I'm hoping I've come to the right place as I'm looking for any info about my GGrandfather whose name was Runnert TURNER.
I'm curious about his name as I've not found anybody else called Runnert. Anybody heard of this name before? It is, with a little imagination, TURNER backwards. Any idea if reversed names were common in 1840's? I've tried looking for Runnert as a surname but can't find anything likely.
I'm also looking for any info about his parents. His father is a complete blank so I'll probably not get any further with that, but I'd like to know something about his mother. Her name was Betty or Elizabeth TURNER and she married Thomas SHEPLEY. On their marr cert it lists her father as John TURNER, a calenderer and her address is just Newton.
About Runnert
I've got his birth cert in 1843, born Back Lane, Newton, mother Betty TURNER (no father listed).
I've also got his marr cert to Sarah REDFERN in 1871 (Reddish ? Church) Salford and death in 1918 in West Gorton (no father's details). I've also got his 4 children Thomas Shepley, Harriet Ann, John and Eli Shepley. Oh, and censuses for 1861,71,81,91,1901+1911. Can't find him in 1851 but his now married mother is listed in Bottom Street, Newton.
He's been variously transcribed as Robert, Rinmart, Burnet (not to be confused with Burdett TURNER who I believe is a different person).
I have got quite a bit of information about him but am stuck as the names of Betty and John TURNER are quite common and the boundary changes around Cheshire/Lancashire make it challenging to say the least. I'm hoping a little local knowledge would help.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
