George Cope was murdered by Benjamin Skidmore in 1917. I've read the initial item in The Reporter in Sept 1917 when Skidmore was sent to the assizes. Having read Gererd's reply to Ann I wonder where reports of Skidmore's fate might be? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Linda, hope you get this. I saw your thread a few days ago and thought I'd research this for you. I can't copy and paste the article but it's only a short one so I'll type it out.
From the Guardian August 31 1918 A verdict of manslaughter was returned by a coroner's jury at Mossley yesterday against Ben Skidmore, aged about 60, a farmer of Barkwell Farm Mossley. The inquest was on the body of George Cope, 32, labourer, 7 Barkwell Lane Mossley who died on Wednesday evening after a quarrel with Skidmore. Haven't so far found out what his sentence was if any. Hope this helps... John

Hi Lindylou Skidmore's charged was later reduced to manslaughter and I later found a report in the Mossley Reporter on the 23rd of Nov 1918 that Skidmore had been found not guilty and discharged.
